CENTER – Rep. Josh Kail (R-Beaver/Washington) invites residents to join him on Friday, April 3, anytime between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an American Red Cross blood drive at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2000 Wagner Road Ext. S, Monaca. Kail is cosponsoring the blood drive with the Hilton Garden Inn.

Persons age 17 and older in good health who weigh a minimum of 110 pounds are eligible to donate a unit of blood every eight weeks. Donors will be required to show photo identification on the day of the blood drive.

While Red Cross employees already follow thorough safety protocols to prevent the spread of any infection, additional precautions have been implemented. Such precautions include checking the temperature of staff and donors before entering a drive to make sure they’re healthy, providing hand sanitizer, increasing enhanced disinfecting of surfaces and equipment. Beds will also be spaced apart whenever possible.

“Even though our lives have been disrupted by coronavirus and the uncertainty it causes, we have also seen many examples of our community’s commitment to helping each other. The donation of N95 masks to local hospitals in need was a big one, but this is also an important way to help,” Kail said. “Please donate so those who need blood will have access to it.”

COVID-19 has threatened access to blood as about 7,000 Red Cross blood drives have been canceled across the country, resulting in a loss of more than 200,000 donations. One of the most important things people can do to prevent a second health care crisis is to give blood.

Blood shortages can impact patients who need surgery, victims of car accidents and other emergencies, or patients suffering from cancer.

To donate blood, residents should call 1-800-733-2767 or visit
