Agreement Signals Positive News for Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station, Says Kail

March 7, 2023

HARRISBURG – Rep. Joshua D. Kail (R-Beaver/Washington) announced today that operations and jobs at the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station should remain intact after an agreement was reached between Vistra Corporation and Energy Harbor Corporation, the plant’s owner.

According to the accord, Vistra Vision will be the newly formed subsidiary. This will combine Energy Harbor’s nuclear and retail businesses with Vistra’s nuclear and retail businesses and Vistra Zero renewables and storage projects.

“This news for the Beaver Valley is a great step toward ensuring residents can continue to have access to energy and provide for their loved ones through these family-sustaining jobs,” said Kail. “With the company’s innovative technologies and retail growth, the 15th Legislative District will benefit tremendously.”

The two-unit station, located in Shippingport, can power more than 1 million homes daily due to its energy generation. Unit 1’s operating license runs until 2036 while Unit 2’s is set to expire in 2047.

Vistra Vision will now serve nearly 5 million customers across 18 states, making them one of the largest retail businesses in the nation.
